| Alaska Wild Signs Highly Sought After Quarterback | |
The Alaska Wild roster continues to put the finishing touches on a revamped and talented roster. Today four player signings were confirmed. Quarterback Donald Carrie, defensive back Jameel Brady, and former Grizzly defensive back Brandon Matthews are new additions to the roster. Defensive back James Griffin also rejoins the team.Donald Carrie, 6'3", 240 is coming to camp extremely excited about competing for the starting quarterback position. Known for his tremendous size and pure passing ability, Carrie played for the San Angelo Stampede Express in 2007 where he passed for 330 yards and 6 TD's in one game. He played collegiality at Alcorn State University where he was an All Conference Performer. Defensive back Jameel Brady out of Miami Killian was coached by Billy Rolle, who also coached Antonio Bryant and Torrie Cox at Miami Northwestern High School, and helped convince Brady that Pitt would be the right choice for him. Jameel was considered one of the top defensive back prospects coming out of Florida. He registered 5 Interceptions as a junior. Brady played strong safety his senior year and helped lead his team to an 11-1 record. Brady will bring a strong, physical presence to the secondary. Brandon Matthews, former Fairbanks Grizzly is coming to the Wild as a DB/CB. He attended Dr. Samuel L. Banks High School in Baltimore, MD, where he was Captain of the football team. Brandon was a multi-sport star who also played basketball, baseball, and track. Playing semi-pro football with the Baltimore Bay Atlantic Sharks in 2007 and 2008, He helped them to play for the championship in 2007, held in Las Vegas for the NAFL1. Brandon made the All-Star team both years with a total of 14 interceptions. After months of signings only to upgrade the those picks with new signings the team is beginning to take shape. A local tryout will take place at the Sullivan Arena on January 24th in search of any diamonds in the rough. Training camp will begin shortly afterward to allow the team to gel. The intensity of the off season gives the Alaska Wild front office a lot to look forward to. "Some eyebrows will definitely be raised once the fans can see the on the field product." commented Wild General Manager Abe Hernandez, "The combination of talent and a coach with a proven championship background in this league will be very apparent."
